Neil Young & Crazy Horse "Hey Hey, My My" (1979)
"Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" is a song written by Canadian-American musician Neil Young. Combined with its acoustic counterpart "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)", it bookends Young's 1979 album 'Rust Never Sleeps.'
Lyrics:
Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Out of the blue and into the black
You pay for this, but they give you that
Once you're gone, you can't come back
When you're out of the blue
And into the black
The king is gone but he's not forgotten
Is this the story of Johnny Rotten?
It's better to burn out 'cause rust never sleeps
The king is gone but he's not forgotten
Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the pictu...

You know Charlie Chaplin wrote the music for this in 1935 for the film Modern Times. And the lyrics were penned later on by Geoffrey Parsons / John Turner around 1954. Nat Coles version is my favorite and Louis Armstrong. Even Michael Jackson has done it. But you can hear the melody in other Chaplin films up through Limelight in 1951. Brilliant tune, but the lyrics really made it the classic standard it's become.

This brings back memories of my first stadium concert nearly 50 years ago. We road bicycles there and met a friend at the front, waited in line for hours. The Who played 23 awesome songs not including Going Mobile, however I would say this is one of the most iconic. Up there with Baba O'Riley and Squeeze Box. The last song in the set Won't Get Fooled Again has as much meaning now as it did in the 70’s. We doing an album theme party for my wife’s birthday day. I was going to do Communication Breakdown but I may change to Going Mobile! Just need to learn the lyrics… Many thanks Mark for making this video.

What an amazing song. I don't know when my love will ever show up. I'm 18 and never loved anyone: I don't feel complete - I didn't find myself. My lonely afternoons are so warm, I don't have air conditioning. Even more lonely because I don't know how to imagine love when I fall asleep. I want a job, money. I want to workout, do sports, I want to fight, I don't wanna feel tired in relationships, or need of isolation. I wanna feel funny when I'm up to humour. I want a boredom that at least says I am doing well for myself, and that there is a constructive silence, a sweet lingering. I want to grab what I think is a lasting wealth. I just know that if she's coming, she's better than everything I can imagine.
